“Many of the Nicaraguan families are going to be limited, because several of the products with which these exquisite foods are prepared have risen too much in price,” said Reni Díaz Zavala, owner of a commercial establishment in the city of Somoto, head of the department. from Madrid.

There are also jocotes, mangoes, and apples, which this year have had an increase in their prices,” said María Rodríguez, originally from the city of Masaya, and who at this time usually sets up her small mobile fruit business on the streets of Somoto.

For his part, Wilmer Jiménez, from the community of Guasuyuca, in Somoto, said that sugar cane candy, cane itself and alfeñique, as well as cane juice and coconut water, have new prices, because the wholesalers add transport costs despite the fact that fuel prices remain frozen. “It’s that these (the wholesalers) don’t waste time raising everything,” he said.

Jiménez, who is dedicated to the sale of fruits, vegetables and other products of this summer season in the streets of the city of Somoto, also said that there are products such as desserts, syrups, jocote and mango cusnaca that are traditionally They are made for this date in many Nicaraguan homes, they may not be served this year in dining rooms due to their high prices for their preparation.

Indian or patio chickens also do not escape high prices, since one of these poultry is offered at between 300 to 350 córdobas, not including the products that are added to its preparation, either for soups or accompanied with cheese balls and corn dough.
