Santo Domingo.-The increase in prices in some industrialized items continues to show its upward trend due to imported inflation as a result of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
The Government has focused initiatives on palliative measures to guarantee food production and mitigate the internal effect of external inflation.
President Luis Abinader decided to extend a fertilizer subsidy program for three months, one of the main problems identified by the FAO that could threaten food security.
The president also announced a subsidy of 100 pesos for each bushel of rice produced, which will reduce the impact of the prices charged to the consumer.
In the same way, the raw material for the production of pigs, chicken and eggs, essential elements in the family basket, is being subsidized.
The war in Ukraine has raised the prices of fertilizers, but also those of raw materials for the production of oils, such as soybeans.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020 and the war in Ukraine, for example, oils have risen 15 times, explained the president of the Federation of Merchants, Iván García.

— Elimination
The trade waits for a period of six months, in which the customs tariffs for the importation of 67 subheadings that compile the highly consumed goods of the basic family basket would be eliminated.
