The blockades registered this Monday in different entities of the country are a consequence of the government’s lack of response to the multiple calls from different sectors to address the deep crisis that is being experienced in the national agriculture, highlighted Baltazar Valdez Armentia, one of the leaders of the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside.

He explained that for several years, national food production in Mexico has been decreasing in all crops due to many factors, such as high production costs, lack of financing, climate change, lack of generational replacement and unfair marketing.

Furthermore, he points out, the food processing industry has caused this economic activity to have a considerable decrease in production and profitability, leading farmers to experience one of the worst economic and social crises of the last 70 years.

He emphasized that for this and other reasons, producers have been organizing in most states of the country, giving life to the front for the rescue of the countryside, bringing together state and regional organizations, as well as bodies that depend on the sector, such as transporters and service providers, such as pilots, crop dusters, input dealers and a large part of society in general, since it is affected in the consumption of food.

In a letter sent to President Claudia Sheinbaum, signed by Valdez Armentia and Eraclio Rodríguez Gómez, another of the leaders of the front, and of which this medium has a copy, it is requested that the State recognize agriculture by developing a national financing system, as well as market control mechanisms to strengthen the national one, combat unfair trade in agricultural goods and other actions that allow incentivizing and giving certainty to the national production of foodstuffs.

They also demand that in the review of the T-MEC, grains be left out of the agreement, demanding that the marketing of these products not depend on the Chicago Stock Exchange, since this marketing instrument gives rise to speculation, which only favors large importers.

They also demand the establishment of a development bank for the agricultural and fishing sectors, publication of guaranteed prices for all food production and that the front participate in the review and formulation of the National Water Law.

Government calls for dialogue today

The National Association of Transporters assured that it had not been invited to the dialogue tables convened by the Ministry of the Interior, this Monday at 1:00 p.m.

Valdez Armentia confirmed that his organization will appear at the tables called by Bucareli for today.
