Producers will receive RD$23 million for solar energy projects

The Executive Directorate of National Irrigation Technology (TNR) and the Agricultural Bank (Bagricola) opened this Friday the call of the Promotion Fund for the Technification of the National Irrigation System (Fotesir), directed to producers of Montecristi and Dajabón interested in receiving non-refundable vouchers up to 25% for the installation of solar systems.

The initiative has 23 million pesos in contributions aimed at promoting photovoltaic projects in these border provinceswith the purpose of reducing production costs, strengthening resilience to climate change and moving towards a more competitive and sustainable agricultural sector.

The callincorporated into the program Bagri-Irrigationa joint effort between the TNR and Bagrícola, will be open until Friday February 6, 2026 at 4:00 pm Its goal is to increase the competitiveness of the countryside, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote more efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

During an act, Claudio Caamaño Vélezdirector of the TNR, described the measure as a key step in the modernization of agriculture Dominican, highlighting his contribution to the reduction of energy expenditurethe increase in productivity and the consolidation of an agricultural model that is more respectful of the environment.

“The solar energy Not only is it technically feasible, but it becomes a crucial element to guarantee the food safetythe profitability of the producer and compliance with the environmental commitments of the country. “We are working so that the Dominican Republic generates more, using less water and in a sustainable way,” he stated.

While, Steven Balderacoordinator of projects del Bagrícola, reported that with this launch of Bagri-Irrigation and Fotesir in Montecristi and Dajabón continue to consolidate an execution that is already transforming multiple provinces of the country and leading them to complete more than 100 projects of technical irrigation and risk mitigation.

“These advances have allowed us to extend the financing terms five to seven years and reduce interest ratesincluding 7% for women and zero rate for young people. With this we promote productivity, competitiveness and inclusion throughout the agricultural sector,” he indicated.

The calls and the program Bagri-Irrigation have made it possible to reduce the price of irrigation systems by more than half and streamline procedures. It should be noted that with this there are five: three in the Southern region (San Juan, Azua, Bahoruco and Independencia), focused on irrigation technologyand two of solar energy in the Northwest (Valverde and Santiago Rodríguez).

Until now, 351 producers have presented their endorsement letterfulfilling one of the requirements to participate in the process.

The mayor of the Partido municipality also participated, in Dajabón, Ramon Penaand Enero Rodríguezin charge of Fotesir.

Contest rules

The call of the Fotesir allows small and medium producersnatural or legal persons, of Montecristi and Dajabón present projectsprovided that the installed capacity does not exceed the 60 kilowatts.

Special priority will be given to projects aimed at replacing traditional energy sources with solar systems applied to irrigation, as well as efficient irrigation that increase profitability, reduce expenses, optimize water use and reduce environmental impact.

Proposals will also be considered for rehabilitate equipment drive and solar panels linked to the agricultural production.
