The Ministry of Production hired the nephew of Jorge Prado Palomino, holder of the same ministerial portfolio, for an amount of 42,000 soles, in two service orders of 21,000 soles. This is Edwin Chávez Prado, who works as coordinator in a decentralized office of the entity, in the Ica region, from February to date.
According to the Punto Final report, Edwin Chávez is the son of María Prado Palomino, sister of Minister Jorge Prado. He was hired by the “organizational strengthening service in productive activities”, in the remote modality, for which the alleged crime of nepotism would have been incurred.
The first order of 21,000 soles was issued on February 16, the day the nephew of the Minister of Production recently processed his registration in the National Registry of Suppliers (RNP). The investigation details that Edwin Chávez began to collect items of 7,140 soles until completing the amount of his contract.

Once his first contract ended, on May 30, the Ministry of Production renewed Edwin Chávez until August for another 21,000 soles.
Don’t know about hiring
The Minister of Production, Jorge Prado, indicated that he is not aware of the hiring of his nephew Edwin Chávez, which is why he mentioned—through his image office—that he would take action on the matter.
However, the report reveals that Jorge Prado was aware that Edwin Chávez worked in the entity, because both met in an activity with pisco producers that took place on March 18 of this year.
break law
Luis Valdivia, a labor lawyer, expressed that “hiring a direct family member in the state is not only a serious ethical breach. It is a direct violation of Law 26771, which establishes the prohibition of exercising the power of appointment and hiring of personnel in the public sector in case of kinship, up to the fourth degree of consanguinity.
