Through Ministerial Resolution No. 00435-2025, the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) authorized the start of the first 2026 fishing season for anchovy and white anchovy in the southern part of Peru. The provision was published in the official newspaper El Peruano.
According to the rule, the season will run from 00:00 hours from January 1 to June 30, 2026or until the Maximum Total Allowable Catch Limit (LMTCP) set at 251 thousand tons for indirect human consumption.
Furthermore, it states that the extractive activity will include the maritime area located between 16° south latitude and the south end of the maritime domain of Peru, corresponding to the period January – June 2026.
Likewise, they will only carry out fishing tasks within the framework of the Ministerial Resolution, the fishing vessels registered and authorized to develop extractive activities. They must have the assignment of a Maximum Catch Limit per Vessel of the Southern Zone (LMCE-Sur) that is published by Directorial Resolution of the General Directorate of Fisheries for Direct and Indirect Human Consumption.
Establish, employ purse seine nets with minimum mesh size of ½ inch (13 millimeters). Fishing operations must be outside the areas reserved for artisanal and smaller-scale fishing. Have the Satellite Tracking System platform-beacon on board the vessel.
In terms of conservation, prohibits the capture of juvenile specimens above the 10% allowedwarning that, if this percentage is exceeded, extractive activities will be temporarily suspended in the affected areas.
Likewise, the entity recalled that the Failure to comply with the provisions will be sanctioned in accordance with the General Fisheries Law and other current regulations.
