This August 5, the Attorney General’s Office requested at State Council cancel Leopoldo Múnera Ruiz as rector of the National University of Colombiathe most important state academy in the country, for period 2024-2027.
The Public Ministry considered that its appointment as a senior manager of this Public Higher Education Institution presented vices in the process and ignored the election of José Ismael Peña.

In a document referred to the Judge Gloria María Gómez MontoyaThe control body said that the múnera designation process was stained by irregularities that violated due process. In the file it is expressed that It was evidenced that the election did not respect the established procedure, which is the cause of electoral nullity.

How was the choice process?
Leopoldo Múnera was chosen as rector of the institution by the Higher University Council (CSU) in extraordinary session on June 6, 2024after the election of José Ismael Peña was declared invalid.
In principle, the CSU had chosen Peña in March 2024 through the Borda methoda vote system widely questioned at that time for violating the general statute of the university and for not having democratic legitimacy, since Pela had very little support in the university consultation, the opposite case of Múnera, who was the most voted by the community.
