Procuraduría and Editorial Casa El Tiempo launch Marathon Electoral

The 2026 electoral process is already underway. And although it faces challenges such as hackeos threats, misinformation and the presence of armed actors in some territories, the country advances with the commitment to ensure that the elections for Congress and Presidency of the Republic develop with transparency, security and full citizen participation.

With that purpose, the Attorney General’s Office promotes the strategy ‘Electoral Paz’, a line of work that seeks to strengthen the role of the institution as guarantor of the electoral process. This initiative is part of the two strategic lines of the Attorney General: ‘Dialogue to build consensus’ and ‘Attorney General’s Office’, aimed at promoting confidence, surveillance and risk prevention during the democratic process.

As part of this strategy, the Attorney General’s Office and Editorial Casa linked efforts to hold an unprecedented event in the country: the Paz Electoral Marathon, A day of reflection and dialogue that will take place on October 8, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pmand that can be followed live on www.portafolio.co, www.eltiempo.com and the YouTube channel of El Tiempo.

During the marathon, Portafolio will lead the panel ‘The voice of entrepreneurs’which will be transmitted from 6:30 pm This space will bring together prominent union leaders of the country, including Jorge Bedoya, president of the Farmers Society of Colombia (SAC); Bruce Mac Master, president of the Andi; and María Claudia Lacouture, president of the Colombian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM). The conversation will be moderated by Jaime Pumarejo, director of Portfolio, and business journalist Johana Lorduy.

The purpose of this conversation will be to explore how the business sector can contribute to the construction of electoral peace and the strengthening of democracy, in a context where the country prepares for one of the most decisive elections of the last decade.

The Electoral peace marathon It will be a space of twelve hours dedicated to reflection and exchange of ideas about the challenges of the electoral process in Colombia. During the day issues such as security in the regions, the transparency of the vote, the lessons learned in Latin America, the role of entrepreneurs and the power of young people in the consolidation of a democratic culture will be addressed.

With this initiative, the Attorney General’s Office and Editorial Casa ratify their commitment to the defense of democracy and the promotion of a participatory, transparent and peaceful electoral process.

The Electoral Paz Marathon of October 8 will begin at 8 in the morning With the dialogue between Andrés Mompotes, director of El Tiempo, and Gregorio Eljach, Attorney General of the Nation, on the ‘context of the purpose of electoral peace’.

This conversation will follow a panel on the same issue in which Hernán Penagos will participate, National Registrar of Civil Status and Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, Comptroller General of the Republic.

This will be the opening of other panels such as ‘Security and peace: elections without fear in the territories’, that will moderate Martha Soto, editor of the Time Research Unit and John Torres, Editor of the Country, El Tiempo and in which the Ombudsman, Iris Marín will participate; The Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez and the general director of the National Police, General Carlos Fernando Triana Beltrán.

The morning will end with spaces to talk about how to guarantee electoral transparency and lessons of countries that faced security safety risks.

At 1:20 in the afternoon the ‘Digital Youth Panel will begin: the power of the young vote’, moderated by Carlos Solano, director of the School of Multimedia Journalism El Tiempo and Juan Sebastián Lombo, journalist of the Political Section.

And at 2:25 in the afternoon, the governors of the tar, Atlantic, Chocó, Valle del Cauca and Cauca, And the mayors of Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, will dialogue with the journalist Jineth Bedoya, a time editor of El Tiempo on the challenges for an election in peace.
