The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Proconsumer) announced this Tuesday the beginning of a broad national operation of supervision in piglets and establishments dedicated to the sale of pork, chicken and other food products, with the aim of guaranteeing the quality, hygiene and safety of food during the Christmas festivities.
The executive director of the entity, Eddy Alcantarareported that the inspections will be carried out in various provinces of the country, with emphasis on areas of high commercial activity such as Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel and La Romana, among others.
Through a press release, he indicated that the operation is part of a preventive strategy due to the increase in demand for meat products typical of the season, in order to protect the health of consumers.
The technicians of the areas of Inspection and Surveillance and Good Business Practices will evaluate aspects such as the correct refrigeration of meat, the cleanliness of preparation areas, the proper handling of products, the freshness of food and storage conditions.
Health risks
Proconsumer He said that he will ensure that practices that pose health risks are not engaged in, such as the sale of meat in poor condition, exposure to sources of contamination or improper handling of food.
Alcantara reiterated the commitment of the institution with the defense of consumer rights and urged citizens to verify the hygiene conditions at points of sale and report any irregularity through official channels.
The entity reported that the operations will remain active throughout the festive period as part of its surveillance and prevention work to guarantee a safe consumption throughout the national territory.
