Processing of visas for parents of US citizens resumes in May

As of May, the United States Embassy in Havana will begin to process some of the pending visa requests, giving priority to the claims of parents of United States citizens, IR-5 category.

“In May 2022, the US Embassy in Havana will resume limited immigrant visa processing prioritizing applicants in the IR-5 category (parents of US citizens). This change is part of a broader expansion of the Embassy’s functions to facilitate diplomatic and civil society engagement and provide consular services. As we work to restart limited immigrant visa processing at the Havana Embassy, ​​the Georgetown Embassy in Guyana will remain the primary processing location for most Cuban immigrant visa applicants.” informs the Embassy on its website.

Applicants will be seen by appointment only. During the transition period, the National Visa Center will schedule applicants’ appointments at the United States Embassy in Havana or the United States Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana, depending on operational needs.” the diplomatic delegation said.

In the meantime, “processing of applicants at the Georgetown Embassy will continue. Applicants do not need to contact the embassies in Havana or Georgetown as they will be notified directly with their appointment information.
