Probeis: Feds sweep series against Astronauts

Michael Wielansky pushed two runs and Jhonny Santos homered to be fundamental pieces of offense in the victory of the Federales de Chiriqui 9 runs by 6 over the Los Santos Astronauts on day 8 of the Probeis season

The Chiricanos took a clear advantage in the game by producing two runs in the second inning, one in the third, a 4-run rally in the fourth chapter and two more in the sixth inning. For their part, the Astronauts added a run in the second, third, sixth and eighth innings, while in their last turn at bat they scored two more times in a late reaction that was not enough to level the game.

With this victory, the Federales (7-1) sweep the three-game series against the Astronauts and establish themselves in first place in the Probeis standings, while the ninth team from Santeña (1-7) add their third straight defeat.

Kenny Hernández, in relief, was the winning pitcher for Los Federales, allowing only 2 hits and 1 run in 3 innings worked, while starter Oliver Torrero took the loss, conceding 4 hits, including a home run, scored on him 3 runs, struck out 2 and awarded 4 walks.

Jhonny Santos went 2-for-4 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs to be the best offense for the Federals, while Michael Wielansky went 2-for-4 with 1 run scored, 2 RBIs and 1 stolen base; Marcos de la Rosa 5-3, with 1 scored and 3 stolen bases. For the Astronauts, the most outstanding were Franyer Arias 5-1 with a home run, 1 run scored and 2 RBIs; Germain Ruiz 4-3, a double, 2 pushed, 1 scored and Benyamin Bailey with 3 hits in 4 turns and 1 RBI.

This Monday is a rest day and the actions resume on Tuesday, December 20 when the Federales face the Eagles from 12 noon and the Astronauts will begin the series against the Atlanticos at 7:00 pm both games at Rod Carew Stadium
