The waters in the ruling party are not calm after the registration of lists for the body that will draft the New Constitution. This, because two historic parties that considered themselves allies, the PS and the PPD, each opted for different lists. The first agreed with Approve Dignity and the second, with the PR and the DC.
Not even the ratification of the lists before the Electoral Service (Servel) made this controversy cease. In fact, it grew after some statements from the deputy and president of Social Convergence (CS), Diego Ibáñez, against the PPD.
“Today democracy has become a kind of audience fight, each one tends to speak to their own audiences: ‘I am from the Broad Front, I am going to speak to the youth, as PPD I want to speak to them… no I know, to a spurious center’. I believe that today we are at a time when the compulsory vote has broken that distribution of audiences, today what the compulsory vote imposes is that more than 50% who did not vote will go to vote, and that changes any type of correlation ” , said.
These statements caused annoyance in the President of the PPD, Natalia Piergentiliwho stated that he will discuss his statements privately with Ibáñez.
“I am absolutely confident that we are not betting on any division, we are betting on expanding the base of social support to a progressive view of the country, we always did it head-on, from the beginning we proposed the option of going on separate lists, we raised our arguments in the political committees, in the conversation spaces”, he stated.
“So if there is still someone who believes that there is a desire for division here, I am sorry, we will have to deepen the conversations, but I do not want to delve into a false struggle, because our intention is to contribute, to continue working together. So I am not going to delve into these perceptions, but I am going to take charge of discussing them privately, how these things have to be done, with the deputy Diego Ibáñez ”, he closed.
