The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) warned that it will seize the equipment and bring the company Worldcoin Foundation to justice in the event of contempt of the resolution that prohibits it from operating in the country due to the abusive clauses they have. in their contracts with citizens who offer their biometric data in exchange for cryptocurrencies.
Alcántara explained that the warning was given to the company through a sheriff’s act, which highlights that in the event that the company does not comply with the provision established in resolution number 2058-24, dated December 12 of this year, They will use constitutional and jurisprudential legal mechanisms, as well as public forces to guarantee compliance with Law 358-05 on consumer and user protection.
The official reaffirmed that the application of the measures and standards established in the law that creates Pro Consumidor aims to safeguard the integrity, security and rights of Dominican consumers.
It is recalled that the consumer protection entity ordered the immediate cessation of the operations of Worldcoin Foundation, due to abusive clauses in the adhesion contracts, which required citizens to offer their biometric data in exchange for cryptocurrencies.
Pro Consumidor notified the decision through act no. 1840-24, dated November 14, 2024, and coordinated with the Legal Department to guarantee that the company’s contracts adhere to the legal precepts established in the regulations.
A total of 7,478 people have agreed to offer the capture of their irises at Worldcoin centers in Santo Domingo, in exchange for payment.
It is also recalled that the Central Electoral Board (JCE) issued a statement supporting the measures adopted by Pro Consumidor regarding
the suspension of said company and highlighted that it is the only body with exclusivity for the collection, storage, treatment and processing of people’s biometric data.

Finally, the official stated that “the protection of consumer rights is our priority. We will not allow established regulations to be violated and compromise the safety and integrity of our citizens. “We will use all necessary legal mechanisms to ensure compliance with the law.”
