The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer) reported that he seized hundreds of bottles of water that were exposed to sun rays in businesses located in different sectors of Greater Santo Domingo and in cities in the interior, during a operational carried out this Monday, one day after having expired the term granted by the institution to protect this mass consumption product from the sun.
This was reported by the executive director of Pro Consumer, Eddy Alcantarathrough a press release, in which he explained that since the early hours of this Monday morning, the institution’s inspectors began to travel to different cities, in addition to the National District and the province Santo Domingo, including Santiago, La Vega, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, San Cristóbal and others.
Alcántara indicated that in the capital were made operational in Ensanche La Fe, Cristo Rey, Villa Francisca, San Carlos and other sectors, where they were found on shelves bottles of water “without any protection in front of the sun raysso they were retired immediately due to the damage they may cause to the health of the people.”
He stated that the same thing happened in the province Santo Domingo and in the other cities where the inspectors of Pro Consumer.
In the case of Santiago, he reported that seized bottles of water in different grocery stores and warehouses.
Some businesses have complied with the measure
The owner of Pro Consumer highlighted that a large part of the establishments merchants who sell bottled water have already taken the measures necessary to protect it from sun rays.
“We will continue to carry out the operationalbecause our objective is to eliminate this practice that is harmful to the health humane to expose the bottles of water in the rays of the sun. We want to ensure compliance with the regulations established by Law 358-05,” Alcántara added in the note.
He won term
The official recalled that last Sunday, December 1, the term that had been granted to businesses that sell bottled water without due protection against ultraviolet rays.
Likewise, he indicated that the establishments commercials that have not fulfilled with the regulations will be sanctioned with fines from one to two minimum wages, in addition to the retirement of bottles.
In that sense, he asserted that businesses that use tarps to cover the shelves will not be considered, since this material does not protect the bottles of water from the sun.
Alcántara expressed: “This measure of good practices commercial was started in 2021 in order to protect and guarantee the health of the entire Dominican population”.
