Pro Consumidor reports delivery platforms comply with backpack replacement requirement

Santo Domingo, DR. – The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumer) reported that product or food delivery service companies (delivery) maintain active their replacement programs for thermal backpacks used by their delivery drivers, in compliance with the requirement made by that entity.

During a meeting with the executive director of Pro Consumidor, Eddy Alcantararepresentatives of these companies reported that there is still a percentage of their delivery partner bases to replace their work equipment.

In that sense, the multinationals reported that they will invest the resources necessary to replace backpacks that are in poor condition, in meetings held with the head of the agency that defends consumers.

For its part, Alcántara expressed its satisfaction with the companies’ compliance with the measures taken by Pro Consumidor in 2023 and recalled that the replacement request arose as a result of multiple complaints and complaints received due to the poor condition of some of these accessories used for the transportation of food and other products.

“We ask these companies from 2023 to begin the process of improving and replacing the equipment used by delivery drivers affiliated with their companies,” he explained.

He stated that the institution he directs seeks to ensure that all delivery drivers of all food delivery companies in this modality have adequate equipment for the transportation of food and merchandise for human consumption.

Likewise, he highlighted that, through the Good Business PracticesPro Consumidor ensures that suppliers comply with their obligations and guarantee products and services that protect the health, safety and economic interests of the population, in accordance with the provisions of Law 358-05.

In that order, he cited article 36 of the standard, which obliges suppliers to adopt timely measures and comply with the provisions of the authorities to eliminate or reduce risks, including the withdrawal, suspension, replacement or repair of the affected products.

Finally, Alcántara assured that Pro Consumidor will continue to be vigilant to safeguard the rights, health and safety of consumers, reaffirming its role as a regulatory and citizen protection entity.
