PRM convention runs smoothly

Santo Domingo.- The XXI ordinary convention of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRM) is being held this Sunday in an orderly manner, in which some 1,256 delegates had the task of electing the president and general secretary of that political organization.

The president of the ruling entity, José Ignacio Paliza, and the general secretary, Carolina Mejía, are the main candidates to be re-elected in office for another four years, but other national leaders will also be elected during the vote.

Mejía went early to the Volleyball Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in the capital to exercise his right to vote, as did his father, Hipólito Mejía, and other leaders of that party.

Paliza is the current administrative minister of the Presidency, while Mejía is the mayor of the National District, and both enjoy great sympathy within the PRM.

The convention began at 9:00 in the morning and it will be at 4:00 in the afternoon when said event will be concluded, and then proceed to offer the details about the winners of the contest.

The scrutiny has as its modality the direct vote of some 1,256 delegates, who represent the different provinces, according to the organizers of said activity.

The electoral contest was attended by delegations from Puerto Plata, Santiago de los Caballeros, Monsignor Nouel, Espaillat, San Francisco de Macorís, La Romana, Higuey and San Pedro de Macorís.

In addition, from Valverde, Monte Cristi, La Vega, Barahona, San Juan, Pedernales, San Cristóbal, Azua, Santiago Rodríguez, plus delegations from the National District and the Santo Domingo province.

The convention is supervised by a commission of the Central Electoral Board, as stipulated by law 33-18, on political parties.
