PRM 2028: Chess begins for presidential succession; eight applicants and one goal

PRM 2028: Inicia el ajedrez por la sucesión presidencial; ocho aspirantes y un solo objetivo

He Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has begun what could be described as a chess process of redefining leadership and party strengthening, marked by important movements of support for their presidential facing the internal electoral processes, with a view to 2028 elections.

Given this scenario of dispute over the presidential candidacy For the ruling party, eight candidates maintain a fight characterized by the support of leaders for presidential candidates who they perceive with better positioning or that are politically convenient for them.

The Minister of Tourism, David Colladoaccepted on Thursday an accolade from Jean Luis Rodríguezdirector of the Dominican Port Authority.

It is speculated that soon the president of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), Victor D’Azawho renounced his presidential aspirations, will join Collado’s project. This is also supported by the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruzthe deputies Aníbal Díaz, Peter Richardson and others.

Alfredo Pachecopresident of the Chamber of Deputies, has expressed his support for the administration of the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejiadefining her as a close ally. For his part, Mejía has the public support of the former Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz; of the deputy Ligia Barcelo; of the director of the Social Plan, Edgar Augusto Feliz; and the mayors of Greater Santo Domingo: Francisco Pena, Betty Geronimo and Dio Astacioamong others.

Chess within the PRM

The support of these figures for the aforementioned pre-candidates not only strengthens the internal structurebut sends a message cohesion and planning facing an opposition yet to be defined.

As the main political force in the country, the PRM sets the goal of achieving a third consecutive term and, by virtue of this, its leaders have proposed the design of a roadmap to try to prioritize institutional stability before entering fully into the contest for internal presidential nominationscheduled for the year 2027.

In addition to Collado and Mejía, they are seeking the presidential nomination: the vice president Raquel Pena; Guido Gómez Mazarapresident of the board of Indotel; the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón; Tony Pena Guaba; Roberto Fulcar and Wellington Arnauddirector of Inapa.

lame duck

By next July, it is considered a fact that the president Luis Abinader assume the reins of the organization in a process where, clearly, there is a internal consensus.

This decision would allow Abinader to conclude his government administration in 2028 with the party controlmitigating the “lame duck syndrome”a political phenomenon that describes the loss of influence of a president at the end of his term.

Hippolytus

The former president Hipolito Mejia plays an important role in this process, because she has been working in favor of her daughter’s aspirations, Carolina Mejia.

His presence becomes “a stone in the shoe” for David Colladowho insists on staying in Tourism.

Ambition

In the case of Pacheco and of Jean Luisboth aspire to general secretary of the PRM and try to achieve support for their goals from different points.

If he first achieved support for his party interest from Mejía’s group, he would undoubtedly join Carolina’s candidacy, and he has even met with Hipólito on several occasions.

In the case of Jean Luis, previously linked to the Arrived Dad sector, to go with Collado, he tries to gain followers to become general secretary of that organization.

They try to achieve the support of the main Perremeist leadership, headed by Abinader and Hipólito, who have achieved, through agreements on the problems they have had to face.

Gloria Reyes, Minister of the Mejer, linked to Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, is also trying to reach that position and if achieved, she would become the second lady to occupy the position, which Carolina currently holds.
