Three officials from the Ministry for the Penitentiary Service were arrested for allegedly applying cruel treatment to prisoners from the Men’s Care Center, located in Barinas.
According to judicial sources, one of the apprehended is Andri Desiré Solórzano Linares, director of the aforementioned prison, as well as three custodians identified as Lenny José Chirino Camacho, Humberto Ramón Aparicio and Hendry Yoel Quintero Galíndez.
The officials were captured by agents of the Bolivarian National Police, in response to numerous complaints filed by representatives of the prisoners. In this case, the complaints come for “physical and psychological abuse” against young people deprived of their liberty.
The captured officials were handed over to the Public Ministry where they opened a file for the crimes of torture and cover-up, provided for in the Special Law to Prevent and Punish Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment.
