The NGO, based in Madrid, in its usual monthly calculation, reiterated that all the prisoners that appear on its list have suffered torture and stressed that in the past 12 months it has documented “250 new political prisoners.”
According to Prisoners Defenders, of the 33 minors under 18 –in Cuba the minimum criminal age is 16 years–, 29 are serving sentences and four are being prosecuted.
In addition, 17 have an open process or have been sanctioned for the crime of sedition. “The average sentence for these minors convicted of sedition is 5 years in prison,” criticized the organization.

“Of our current list, 204 protesters have been charged with sedition and at least 202 have already been sentenced to an average of 10 years in prison each,” the report added.
The organization added that there are 120 women in prison for political reasons, including trans.
“All trans women in prison of conscience have been and are incarcerated among men, which also happens with common trans prisoners, suffering indescribable situations, among men,” the organization said.
In addition, “the prisoners who denounce their torture are threatened with taking away the parental authority of their children.”
Among the procedural failures and human rights violations that the NGO identifies in these processes, the “absence of judicial protection for the precautionary deprivation of liberty”, the “absence of independent defense lawyers” and “accusations” that “without exception, are supported solely by witnesses dependent on the Communist Party” of Cuba (PCC, the only legal one).
