(EUROPA PRESS) .- Cuban Prisoners Defenders denounced this Tuesday that in 2021 a total of 955 people have been part of its list of political prisoners, while warning that this figure “is not more than a fraction” of the total.
In a report, the organization details that in January 2021 it had a record of 138 political prisoners and that, from then until the end of December, another 817 new political prisoners have been added.
Currently there are 842, according to Prisoners Defenders, which reiterates that this number constitutes between 40% and 50% of the real figures, whose total verification is “simply unattainable” by any organization.
Of these 842 cases, 700 correspond to the repression of 11J and 15N in Cuba, “a figure still lower than 40% with respect to the total generated by the repressive wave, since it is completely impossible to know the cases among the population,” he emphasizes. Of the total, 107 are women.

Of conscience there are 545, and Prisoners Defenders emphasize that they are deprived of liberty “solely for reasons of conscience, that is, for the strict exercise of their most fundamental Human Rights, with completely and proven false and fabricated accusations, or of a non-criminal nature. and absolutely related to thought “.
A total of 205 are convicted of conscience, “who suffer indictments of prosecution or judicial sentences of forced house labor, measures of limitation of liberty, conditional liberty under threats and other limitations to liberty, including those who are under final sentence without execution. “.
