MIAMI, United States. —Yuneisy Santana, wife of Samuel Pupo Martineza 11J protester in Cárdenas (Matanzas), demanded the immediate release of the political prisoner, who served 20 months of confinement.
The woman and her son visited the Agüica maximum severity prison last Saturday, where Pupo Martínez remains confined despite his serious health problems.
In a post posted on Facebook, Santana recounted how difficult it has been for the minor to reach adolescence without his father, who was sentenced in 2021 to seven years in prison.
“A father who never spent more than three days away from his beloved child and now has spent more than 20 months in unfair confinement without being able to be present in his day to day, in the life of his only son, his reason for living, his warrior ”, he wrote in Facebook Pupo Martinez’s wife.
Yuneisy Santana highlighted that it has been a difficult period for the family, all as a result of the lack of freedom in Cuba.
“He has lost all the changes in him as a teenager. Because? For ‘thinking different’. Your family needs you at home now. Your warrior needs you in his life. Enough of pain and injustice! ”, Expressed her mother.
Samuel Pupo Martínez suffers from Scleroderma or Systemic Sclerosis, a degenerative disease that produces an alteration of the collagen in the skin. This condition also causes joint pain, fatigue, digestive problems, such as difficulty swallowing, heartburn, constipation or diarrhea, and cardiorespiratory problems such as respiratory distress, hypertension or chest pain.
The political prisoner is also diabetic and suffers from progressive glaucoma.
After the events of 11J in Cárdenas, the Military Prosecutor of Matanzas accused Pupo Martínez of having led the protest in front of the headquarters of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in that municipality.
