Prison Observatory: “Judicial persecution does not stop” after releases

Criminal Forum registered 55 release since July 25: there are 807 political prisoners

The Venezuelan Prisons Observatory stated that we cannot speak of a “full justice system” with political prisoners. «Freedom should not be a concession in dribs and drabs, it is a right. “We demand that Nicolás Maduro’s regime grant full freedom to all political prisoners.”

The Venezuelan Prisons Observatory referred to the releases that occurred on January 1, and asserted that “judicial persecution does not cease” against this group of political prisoners, due to the precautionary measures they must face.

«Family members consulted by the Venezuelan Prisons Observatory They say that the majority of young people have a presentation regime every 30 days. The judicial persecution does not stop, the State only changes the modality of the restriction of freedom,” said the OVP in a publication.

According to the committees of Mothers in Defense of the Truth and for the Freedom of Political Prisoners, most of the releases occurred during the early hours of this January 1 in the Tocorón prison, in the state of Aragua, a center where a good part of the 2024 post-election detainees were held.

The Penal Forum also reported the freedom of two people, including Jonathan Torres, from the El Rodeo I prison, located in the state of Miranda.

«As long as there are people arbitrarily detained for political reasons, we cannot speak of a full justice system. Freedom should not be a trickle-down concession, it is a right. We demand that Nicolás Maduro’s regime grant full freedom to all political prisoners,” the Observatory stated.

This measure is added to the 69 and 71 releases that previously occurred on December 25, 2025, according to figures from human rights committees and organizations. The Ministry of Penitentiary Service stated that 99 releases with precautionary measures were processed.
