The Venezuelan Prisons Observatory referred to the releases that occurred on January 1, and asserted that “judicial persecution does not cease” against this group of political prisoners, due to the precautionary measures they must face.

According to the committees of Mothers in Defense of the Truth and for the Freedom of Political Prisoners, most of the releases occurred during the early hours of this January 1 in the Tocorón prison, in the state of Aragua, a center where a good part of the 2024 post-election detainees were held.

The Penal Forum also reported the freedom of two people, including Jonathan Torres, from the El Rodeo I prison, located in the state of Miranda.
«As long as there are people arbitrarily detained for political reasons, we cannot speak of a full justice system. Freedom should not be a trickle-down concession, it is a right. We demand that Nicolás Maduro’s regime grant full freedom to all political prisoners,” the Observatory stated.
This measure is added to the 69 and 71 releases that previously occurred on December 25, 2025, according to figures from human rights committees and organizations. The Ministry of Penitentiary Service stated that 99 releases with precautionary measures were processed.
