With claims of various demands, the one that highlighted the rejection of the Pension Fund Administrators (AFP) and the salary increase for teachers, the trade union centers and guilds from different popular sectors made their voices heard yesterday with a march in the International Workers Day.

Defying the rain, shouting slogans and holding banners, representatives of the various organizations gathered in Parque Enriquillo on Avenida Duarte.

There they read what I titledn “Manifesto May 1st 2022: Dominican Republic”, and then they marched through various streets and avenues until they reached the Mauricio Báez Park, located where San Martín, John F. Kennedy and Leopoldo Navarro streets converge.

David and Gregorio, two victims of police brutality

The death of two young menin less than 15 days, after being beaten in police stations in San José de Ocoa and Santo Domingo, shows that the police brutality is a difficult germ to start, and that the efforts to transform this body of public order collide with an authoritarian culture that is reluctant to take the leap towards respect for human rights.

The faces of those excesses are David de los Santos and Jose Gregorio Custodiowho died after being arrested by police officers for different reasons.

De los Santos, 24, a resident of the Los Alcarrizos municipality, was arrested on Wednesday, April 27, in a Santo Domingo shopping center, after allegedly starring in a incident with an unidentified lady.

With sadness and obvious indignation, Dozens of people protested last night in front of the Ágora Mall square, in the National District, to demand justice for the murder of David of the Saintswho would have been beaten in circumstances that have not yet been clarified while he was detained in a detachment in the capital.

Family, friends, acquaintances and strangers went to the front of the shopping center, where last Wednesday, April 27, the incident occurred in which David was arrested and taken to the Naco detachment.

The protesters, dressed in black, with lit signs and candles and shouting slogans, assure that the death of De los Santos is another episode of the police brutality suffered by the citizens.

Coral Case: Increases to 30 people accused of fraud

From 18 to 30, the number of natural persons, mostly ex-military, against whom the Anticorruption Attorney (Pepca) yesterday filed a formal accusation for alleged fraud against the State estimated at RD$4.2 billion, through the so-called Coral and Coral 5G caseswhose merger he requested.

The accusation also includes 18 companies, and has as main defendants in two cases, the generals Adam Caceres Silvestreformer head of presidential escort Danilo Medina, and Juan Carlos Torres Robiou (FARD).

Both groups are accused of crimes of criminal association, fraud against the Dominican State, coalition of officials, and others typified in the Criminal Procedure Code (CPP).
