Trees at Mirador Sur are a danger to pedestrians

More than 50 trees along Anacaona avenue, in front of the Mirador Sur National District Parkconstitute a danger for those who travel in vehicles on that road and for people who walk on the sidewalks because they are tilted and not deep enough to support onslaught of winds, earthquakes or constant rain.

Through a tour along the imposing avenue, it was possible to count the large number of trees that are like this, mainly on the right side, circulating from east to west.

For example, almost in front of the Libertador tower, six trunks were observed that, in addition to being leaning towards the road, have their roots on the surface and have broken the sidewalk.

Who defends the Civil Defense? Entity is in crisis!

“Sadness”, “shame” and “anger” are some of the feelings expressed by volunteers from the Civil defensewhen pointing out that the institution seems to be in “abandonment” and shows signs of “falling apart”.

At least four collaborators from the headquarters in the National District and from the Ozama Regional Office of the Santo Domingo Province tell El Informe with Alicia Ortega that for several years they have been facing situations for which they have not had enough equipment or vehicles to comply with risk control and rescue tasks.

The volunteers, who spoke on condition of not revealing their names, pointed out that one of the obstacles is the lack of vehicles, which even prevented them from reacting in a timely manner during the torrential rains on the Greater Santo Domingo on November 4. “In my region, which is the Ozama region (…) only one works,” said a volunteer technician, referring to a minibus with equipment to extract people from vehicles in accidents.

The Foreign Minister, Roberto Alvarez, raised yesterday before the Security Council of the United Nations, the need for that organization to put into practice its decision to integrate a multinational force that supports the Haitian National Policewhich he considers as the only way to bring peace of mind to the Haitian people.

In spite of the price stability that the Government proclaims with food, the disagreement with the cost of these is what buyers and sellers express, who also understand that they are not fair prices, as the authorities point out.

on the eve of Christmas, buyers and resellers of goods, who yesterday visited the New Market of Villas Agrícolas, Villa Consuelo and Cristo Rey assured that This is the most expensive Christmas there is! Since with the prices of the products, where some are still stable, the cost of dinner on Christmas Eve this year is very high.

“It is already a tradition all over the world to celebrate Christmas. For that you have to get money from anywhere, but when you start calculating, a dinner on this day is getting too far. The salary is not enough for the fortnightly purchases, imagine for a day like today. It is doing what you can to carry on the tradition,” said Rosa Lara, who was stocking up yesterday at the New Market.
