The Government of the Principality will finance solar charging kits to facilitate energy self-sufficiency in Cuba, especially in rural and peri-urban environments, in the face of the “energy siege” imposed by the United States.
This is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Citizen Rights, through the General Directorate of Agenda 2030.
The program, endowed with 20,000 euros, will focus on sustainable mobility and collaboration with the University of Havana, as reported this Wednesday the Government of the Principality in a statement.
The initiative provides for the financing of solar charging kits to facilitate energy self-sufficiency on the island, and on the other hand, support for the implementation of the Provincial Development Strategy of Havana.
The Deputy Minister of Citizen Rights, Beatriz González Prieto, has explained that one of the objectives is to alleviate the effects of the “illegal and illegitimate” blockade that the Cuban people have suffered for 64 years, “despite having received more than 30 UN condemnations for violation of human rights.”
González Prieto has called on all Asturian municipalities that have twinning with cities and municipalities in Cuba to make a budgetary effort and collaborate in sending aid.
“For a month they have stopped supplying oil, which means that transportation, educational centers, and hospitals are not working and there is beginning to be a shortage of basic materials for the population,” he warned.
For his part, the general director of Agenda 2030, Juan Ponte, has rejected any policy that limits access to goods essential for the survival of a people and has warned that “when an entire population is subjected to deliberate suffering” it is a “crime against humanity” in accordance with international law.
