The National Primary Commission (CP) presided over by the lawyer Jesus Maria Casal The members of the Regional Boards were sworn in virtually for the October 22 election in which a sector of the opposition will select their presidential candidate.
“We welcome you to this great team and congratulate all those selected. We remind you that this is a broad and inclusive call, which must incorporate all Venezuelans who want political change, without distinction, beyond the Unitary Platform. We want you to be factors in citizen mobilization on the road to the primary election,” said Casal, according to the instance in a news bulletin released on Thursday, April 13.
At the same time, the president of the Primary Commission indicated to the Regional Boards that they can install themselves, appoint a president and vice-president, as well as a secretary selected outside their midst. The swearing in was done through four virtual acts.

Casal also pointed out that the Regional Boards for the primary they are called to work with all sectors of civil society:» All must be incorporated. It is very important that we work together and with respect, with all the political and social sectors that want change, with an emphasis on young people who represent the future that we want to build”.
On March 20, the Commission reported the appointment of 240 board members. According to the CP, the members of the Regional Boards “will ensure, under the leadership of the National Primary Commission, that the primary election is a citizen, transparent and broad process in which we choose, among all of us, the candidate who will represent the democratic factors in the 2024 presidential election.”
This Thursday, the Primary Commission held that the rules that govern the functions of the CP and the Regional Boards are the Framework Regulation of the National Primary Commission, the Regulation of the Regional Boards, the Primary Election Schedule, and the Form for the Signature Collection in support of candidacies on their own initiative.
On the other hand, Jesús María Casal said that the Regional Boards must familiarize themselves with the principles that mark the work for the opposition elections: The primary as an exercise of participation rights; autonomy of the National Commission and its support teams, independent of government pressure or other political sectors; inviolable commitment to protect the identity of the voters who participate; and the National Primary Commission is the governing body of the election, defines its rules and controls the process, together with the Regional Boards.
The vice president of the CP, María Carolina Uzcátegui, announced that the commission is preparing a schedule of visits to the regions to hold meetings in person with each of the boards. She said that although it is not in the regulations, each regional board may designate advisory or support teams for certain municipalities or parishes that require it.
“Each state has its particularity. You must define, according to the reality of each state, where an advisory team or delegate is required to support the resolution of specific issues, ”she said.
