The priest Miguel Ángel Cano, 58 years old and director of the Don Bosco Youth Center, died this Thursday morning, January 2, in a traffic accident at kilometer 105 of the highway to Rivas, near the El Prado community.
The religious was heading to San Juan del Sur in the company of three people; However, upon reaching the sector known as El Prado, Cano lost control of the white Hilux truck, hitting a tree, leaving the priest trapped in the remains of the vehicle.
The area’s firefighters managed to extract the priest’s body with hydraulic tongs and he was transferred to the morgue of the Gaspar García Laviana Hospital, in the city of Rivas.

The religious’s companions are Lidia Daniela Mercado Salgado, 27 years old; Kevin Alexander Cruz Vargas, 25 years old; Elizabeth Junieth Cruz Vargas, 16 years old; All of them were seriously injured and were also taken to said medical center.
The National Police is investigating the causes of the accident. The priest’s body will be transferred to Managua in the next few hours and is expected to be laid to rest at the San Juan Bosco Church. On December 2, the gray-haired father completed 24 years of his priestly career.
Cardinal Leopoldo José Brenes, Archbishop of Managua, sent his condolences to the Salesian community for the death of Father Cano, and also stated that he continues to pray for the speedy recovery of the remains of the victims of the fatal accident.
