The priest Luis Ruíz Quiroga of the Catholic Church was sentenced to 60 months in prison, after a hearing held on Tuesday, reported Zuleyka Moore, superior prosecutor of the second section of sexual crimes.

Quiroga was denounced on June 30 for committing libidinous acts against a minor, which is why he was in turn dismissed from his pastoral duties, the Archdiocese of Panama reported in a statement.

The sentence also includes the accessory penalty of disqualification from functions or work in places where there are minors and was included in the list of sexual offenders of the Republic of Panama.

However, the defendant’s defense requested the change of provisional detention measure for community work; the hearing was scheduled for this Thursday, July 7 at 2:00 pm
