According to Sergio Correa, departmental coordinator of Asohofrucol, “the rains have caused damage to thousands of hectares of agricultural crops in the east of the country. For example, there is a deflowering in the Tahiti lemon crops, which will generate a shortage of the product in the coming weeks.”

A pound of yucca, plantain and fruit went from an average value of $2,500 to $3,000. The price of a pound of meat also increased, from $14,000 to $15,000, in the markets of the metropolitan area.

The winter has not only caused landslides in the agricultural sectors of Santander, Arauca and Norte de Santander; but also in the livestock areas of the Magdalena Medio, animals have drowned due to the floods and it has been difficult to get them to the refrigerators in Bucaramanga.
