The price of the set of basic foods fell in August, compared to July, in 24 capitalsaccording to the National Survey of the Basic Food Basket, released on Friday (5) by the Intersindical Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese) and the National Supply Company (Conab).
Since July 2025, the survey encompasses all 27 capitals in the country. Previously, the survey was made only in 17.
The most important falls in the price of the basic basket occurred in Maceió (- 4.1%), Recife (- 4%), João Pessoa (- 4%), Natal (- 3.7%), victory (- 3.1%) and São Luís (- 3.6%). Already The highs occurred in Macapá (0.9%), Palmas (0.6%) and Rio Branco (0.02%).
São Paulo was the capital in which the set of basic foods showed the highest price (R $ 850.84)followed by Florianópolis (R $ 823.11), Porto Alegre (R $ 811.14) and Rio de Janeiro (R $ 801.34).
In the cities of the North and Northeast, where the composition of the basket is different, the lowest values of basic foods were recorded: Aracaju (R $ 558.16), Maceió (R $ 596.23), Salvador (R $ 616.23) and Christmas (R $ 622).

The comparison of the values of the basket of August 2024 with the same month of 2025 showed that in the 17 capitals where the survey was conducted during this period, there was a high price in all, with variations between 3.3%, in Belém, and 18%, in Recife.
In the accumulated of the year, that is, from January to August 2025, in the 17 Capitals surveyed, 13 cities were discharged and four were falling.
The highest elevations occurred in Fortaleza (7.32%), Recife (6.93%) and Salvador (5.54%). The capitals with negative variation were Goiânia (-1.85%), Brasilia (-0.55%), Vitória (-0.53%) and Campo Grande (-0.20%).

In August 2024, the necessary minimum wage should have been R $ 6,606.13 or 4.68 times the current amount at the time, which was R $ 1,412.
Tomato, rice and beans

“Exports of meat grew in August, despite the increase in US tariffs, and the offer of slaughter was smaller, but even so, some cities dropped in retail,” said the Dieese.
