The Federal Highway Police (PRF) recorded a record seizure of cocaine on federal highways in 2021. There were 40 tons. This number is 25% higher than the last record, which was seized in the year 2020. The data is present in the 2021 Yearbook of the corporation, available on the PRF website on the Internet.
The state of Mato Grosso was responsible for 32% of cocaine seizures in Brazil in 2021. In addition, 1.7 tons of crack were seized across the country. It is the biggest apprehension since 2013. The document also presents other numbers to combat crime, such as environmental crimes. Last year, more than 24,000 wild animals that suffered ill-treatment and were transported illegally were rescued; and more than 40 thousand m³ of wood seized.

As for accidents recorded, there were 64,441 across the country, with 54,089 victims with minor injuries and 17,601 with serious injuries. 5,381 people died on federal highways. The highways in Minas Gerais were the ones with the most accidents recorded, 8,308. Santa Catarina, with 7,882 occurrences, and Paraná, with 7,330, lead the ranking of accidents.
In relation to infractions caught on federal highways, overtaking in a prohibited manner, not wearing seat belts and driving faster were some of the most committed infractions. Last year, there were more than 9 million vehicles inspected and more than 8 million people inspected throughout Brazil.
