The Minister of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), Ricardo Lewandowski, stated that the Federal Highway Police (PRF) is prohibited from blocking roads during municipal elections scheduled for Sunday (6). According to him, the institution should act to facilitate the movement of voters, according to the collaboration agreement signed between the ministry and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). If there is a need to block due to an incident, for example, the PRF will be responsible for organizing alternative paths.
“The Federal Highway Police is prohibited from making any roadblocks,” said Lewandowki, during an interview with the program Good morning, Ministerhighlighting that the corporation is also focused on repressing electoral crimes.
“We have an entire apparatus set up, ready to intervene locally, if necessary, at the request of the local electoral judge”, says the minister, noting that, in this case, the local judge gains federal authority to act.
Lewandowki highlighted that the federal government has worked together with the TSE to ensure the tranquility of municipal elections.
He stated that no one will be able to carry weapons 48 hours before or 24 hours after the elections. This, according to the minister, is so that voters feel “free from constraints” when exercising their rights and will at the ballot box.
According to him, the TSE has been improving the fight against the proliferation of misinformation and fake news. He also cites the role of the military police in curbing electoral crimes – and warns that this type of crime, such as coercion, vote buying, abuse of economic power, is classified as a federal crime, as it attacks democracy itself.
