SANTO DOMINGO.- The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santo Domingo Este issued three months of preventive detention against a young man who was dedicated to renting vehicles, to later falsify the documents of the owners and supplant their identities to sell them, thus managing to defraud the least three people in the municipalities of Santo Domingo Este and Norte.
The measure was imposed on Brayan Gircel Lantigua Suazo, 22 years old, by Judge Bernardo Coplín, of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Santo Domingo Este, after weighing the evidence provided by the Public Ministry.
The court ordered compliance with the measure at the La Victoria National Penitentiary.
The justice body claims to have sufficient evidence to demonstrate in a substantive trial the criminal responsibility of the accused for violating several articles of the Dominican Penal Code.
The investigative prosecutor Francia Moreno has established in the process that Brayan Gircel Lantigua Suazo was dedicated to renting vehicles, taking advantage of the fact that these owners gave them copies of their IDs, to which he supplanted their identity with a photo of him and the copies of the license plates delivered to them, he made color copies, giving them the appearance that they were original documents.
The prosecution body opened an investigation after one of the victims reported that he presented a Honda brand vehicle to the alleged scammer, on June 14, 2021, which he later sold without his consent.
Other complaints were added to this fact, such as the case of a Haitian national, whom he attracted with an advertisement about the sale of a Nissan brand vehicle for about US$5,000, on March 22. The victim called him to negotiate the vehicle, giving the accused the sum of US$3,000, subtracting the sum of US$2,000.
When the victim was preparing to deliver the pending money to his residence in Los Frailes II, the true owner of said vehicle arrived and told him that it had been rented by the accused, which caused an argument and the community began to attack him.
Agents of the National Police appeared at the scene and arrested the defendant in flagrante delicto.
