Prevention notice issued for winds, waves and rip currents in the Caribbean

From this Friday the 20th to Tuesday the 24th of January 2023, the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) informs the public that surveillance and monitoring is maintained due to the intensification of winds, waves and rip currents in the Panamanian Caribbean.

Sinaproc highlighted that the areas with maximum surveillance are: in the Eastern Caribbean: Guna Yala Region, Costa Arriba de Colón. For the Central Caribbean: in Costa Abajo de Colón and North of Veraguas. While in the Western Caribbean: Bocas del Toro, Ngäbe-Buglé region.

They explained that according to the surveillance notice of the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA), an increase in waves and an increase in rip currents is expected, due to the intensification of the wind over the Caribbean Sea (North trade winds). .

In these periods of time, winds of up to 45 km/h are forecast. For this reason, the authorities indicate that in case of any emergency they can call 520-4429/911/6998-4809.
