Hundreds of people participate in the funeral of the black singer Gil, which is being held this Friday (25), at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro. A rail corridor was organized outside the theater to facilitate public access and some surrounding streets were banned. In line, people quickly pass through the coffin, arranged at the main entrance and have the opportunity to say goodbye to the singer, who died last Sunday (20), at age 50, for complications of cancer.
Given a request made by Black herself before she dies, the wake is being packed by a selection of festive songs. The family and friends of the singer are being received in a reserved area of the theater, without press access. For now, only the singer’s son, Francisco Gil, came to the public area and spent a few minutes beside the coffin.
Personalities such as actresses Thais Araújo and Arlete Sales and singers Thiaguinho, Pericles and Paula Lima have arrived at the scene for the ceremony.

THE First lady, Janja da Silva also came to Rio to the wake representing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The couple also sent a wreath of flowers were delivered before the ceremony began, bringing a track with the words: “It was born to fly, made its destination, touched the sky and spread only love. Brazil thanks and celebrates its light.” The initial phrases refer to one of the songs of Preta, Just love.
The singer’s public funeral continues until 1 pm at the Municipal Theater. Then the body follows in a procession in a car from the Fire Department. He will pass the streets of the newly created Preta Gil Street Carnival Circuit in the Center, and will go to the penitentium crematorium in Cashew.
