The Central Board of Directors of the Uruguayan Press Association (APU) considered “inappropriate and unfair” the comment made by the president, Luis Lacalle Pou, regarding TV Ciudad during his visit to the headquarters of the Broad Front. This Friday the president visited the FA headquarters to present the preliminary draft of the social security reform and at the beginning of the press conference he asked the journalist from the municipal channel to be the one to ask the first question, saying between laughs: “First the local media: TV Ciudad”.
“We consider that the comment is totally inappropriate because it attributes a political preference to communication professionals that you are surely not aware of and even if it were so, it is not appropriate for this to be publicly indicated,” they said in a statement released this Saturday.
In addition, they added that “it is unfair because Mr. President does not do or has not done the same with the workers of those media outlets whose editorial lines support the current government.” “We are not asking you to do it, for us it would be equally inappropriate and unfair,” they clarified.
Finally, they warned that “this type of accusation, made by no less than the main political figure in the country, can generate the stigmatization of these workers and pay for the hate speech that has begun to be installed, especially on social networks.”
