The presidential delegate of the Metropolitan Region, Constanza Martinez, addressed this Sunday the possibility of applying a State of Exception in the RM, after the murder of the police officer Daniel Palma in the middle of an inspection. In this regard, he stated that the measure “is not useful” today in the area.
“What is happening today in the Metropolitan Region seems to me that the solution of including the military in the prosecution of these crimes seems to me not useful, today, in the state of affairs that exists in the Metropolitan Region , for various reasons,” said Martínez in conversation with the program National state of TVN.

Along these lines, he explained that “logistically, military intervention is very different from the civil intervention that a police officer has to have in the face of committing a crime.”
In turn, he pointed out that “in 2020 we were in a State of Exception due to the issue of the pandemic and it was one of the years where there were the most homicide crimes in the Metropolitan Region.”
“Never one is going to close to measures, however I think that it is not useful for the Metropolitan Region,” Martínez reiterated.
