The former head of the Dircote Jose Baella spoke out after the attack against the presidential candidate Rafael Belaunde happened yesterday in Cerro Azul, when two hitmen on a motorcycle shot at his truck. The leader of Libertad Popular was unharmed.
According to the former police authority, the presidential candidates must have four security personnel once the National Elections Jury (JNE) confirms the candidates.
“They have four troops. Two newspapers for the candidate: two today and two tomorrow. That is the current directive. (That security) is permanent. After they go to the second round they are already reinforced with another provision of the (police) directive,” he indicated in RPP.
Baella assured that currently no presidential candidate receives police protection, a situation that will continue until the electoral body makes candidacies official. Given this, he considered that “there is a void” in that aspect.
The former Minister of the Interior Wilfredo Pedraza He was also consulted about this and urged political parties to reinforce security protocols when they start the campaign.
“Can crime as such affect a candidate? It is a probability. But, if one looks at what each candidate has been saying so far, there is a homogeneity of proposals,” he said in RPP.
The former head of the Interior stated that the proposal by the president of the JNE, Roberto Burneo, for candidates to wear bulletproof vests is not practical.
