In a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto, President Jair Bolsonaro signed today (23) a bill that creates the National Sports Plan. The initiative contributes to the improvement of public sports policies and to the redemocratization of the practice of sports, through the expansion of access to physical activities in the school environment and the promotion of high-performance sports, from the base categories.
The event was attended by the Minister of Citizenship, João Roma, the Special Secretary for Sport of the Ministry of Citizenship, Marcelo Magalhães, and representatives of various national sport entities, in addition to other ministers and athletes such as André Domingos, Maurren Maggi and Daniel Dias.
Sprinter André Domingos, winner of two Olympic and four Pan American medals, praised the work of the Ministry of Citizenship’s Special Secretary for Sport, Marcelo Magalhães, and said that “in 2021, more than 1,500 sports projects were carried out by our country, in the 26 states, in several cities. [Foram] more than six thousand athletes awarded the Talent Scholarship. We have to take our hats off,” he concluded.

Marcelo Magalhães, in his speech, stated that, with the approval of the law, “who wins is the sport, who wins is the sports press, the municipalities, the states” and stressed that it is a victory for Brazilian sport.
The Minister of Citizenship, João Roma, congratulated the submission of the bill to the National Congress and affirmed that, increasingly, “sport has shown itself as the main tool for social transformation. Virtuous habits for a society that is threatened in its values”.
He recalled that “last year we had the Olympics and Paralympics, where Brazil won the largest number of medals in its history”.
At the end of the ceremony, President Jair Bolsonaro said that he is evaluating the recreation of a Ministry of Sport.
