The agreement allows for deeper cooperation in areas such as energy, mining, transportation, communications, security, among others.
The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed this Monday the law ratifying the Treaty of Strategic Partnership and Cooperation with Venezuela.
The document was published on the official portal of the legal information of that country, local media reported.
This agreement was signed on May 7 in Moscow by the Russian president and the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, during their visit to participate in the activities of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.
The key objectives of this treaty include, among others, financial autonomy, joint projects, energy coordination and military-technical cooperation to strengthen the defense capacity and guarantee the security of both States.
The agreement has broad provisions to deepen cooperation between Moscow and Caracas in areas such as energy, mining, transportation, communications, security, the fight against terrorism, among others.
Previously, both the National Assembly of Venezuela and the State Duma (Lower House of Parliament) and the Federation Council (Senate) of Russia approved and ratified this agreement, which exceeds the commitments previously signed between the two nations.
On October 22, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, stated that the ratification of the strategic alliance with Russia represents a step in strengthening Venezuela’s position in the new international scenario.
