The measure has already gone through all the legislative obstacles and is in an optimal state to be promulgated as law by the President Sebastian Pinera.
“Chile has often been ungrateful to its older adults, who after a lifetime of dedication and work, deserve a third age with greater joy, security and hope,” declared the president.
In addition, he added that “our Government has a moral commitment to improve the quality of life of our older adults.”
“Today we have the great joy of launching the second stage of the improvement of pensions through the creation of the Universal Guaranteed Pension, which will begin to be paid from next February and will improve the pensions of more than 2 .5 million people over 65 years of age”, added the President.
In the face of criticism about his financing, Piñera was emphatic: “This guaranteed pension is seriously and responsibly financed and will allow the addition of more than 600,000 new beneficiaries to the contribution made by the State to pensions, most of them women and of social class. half”.
“I deeply thank Congress for approving this urgent and necessary improvement in pensions,” he concluded.
