The Government announced this Monday that President Sebastián Piñera accepted the resignation of Carolina Schmidt as Minister of the Environment.
In his replacement, Javier Naranjo was appointed, who was serving as undersecretary of the portfolio. This minister will assume, according to sources, at 6:00 p.m. in a ceremony in the Blue Room of the La Moneda Palace.
Naranjo is a lawyer from the Andrés Bello University and has extensive experience in administrative and environmental law and was head of the Legal Division of the Environmental Assessment Service, an institution where he also served as head of the Department of Litigation and Administrative Resources.
On the other hand, it was stated that the new undersecretary will be Marcelo Fernández, a civil engineer from the University of Chile, with 25 years of environmental management experience.
The President thanked the work carried out by Shcmidt, under whose management “Chile presided over the United Nations Conference COP 25”.
