President Gustavo Petro and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, held bilateral discussions on November 20, 2024, at the Palacio de Nariño, in Bogotá.
Accompanied by ministers of both nations, including the portfolios of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Transportation, Energy and Communications, the heads of State They reaffirmed the strength of the Qatar-Colombia partnership and their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in the political, economic and cultural spheres.

Qatar welcomed Colombia’s announcement to open an embassy in Dohasince the Presidency described this as a significant milestone in the diplomatic relationship between both nations.
During the visit, The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on economic, commercial and technical cooperation to facilitate joint initiatives and encourage exchange between business leaders and chambers of commerce.
AdditionallyMemorandums of Understanding were signed in the fields of tourism, ports, sports and news exchange, further strengthening ties in various sectors.

Colombia also stated their interest in developing programs to support initiatives in health and education, especially in remote and conflict-affected regions.
Both nations agreed to advance negotiations towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, so the Colombian delegation presented a roadmap for discussions, based on initial conversations held during COP 28 in Dubai in December 2023.
To improve trade and investment relations, both countries decided to establish a dialogue between the National Tax and Customs Directorate of Colombia (Dian) and its Qatari counterpart, with the aim of strengthening collaboration on tax and customs matters.
The parties held detailed discussions on regional developments, with a focus on achieving lasting peace and stability and emphasized the need for a permanent and sustainable cessation of hostilities, compliance with international law and humanitarian principles in armed conflicts, the release of hostages and the relief of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Qatar expressed its gratitude for Colombia’s continued support for the two-state solution and its stance against illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
