Hours before, Idris urged Colombia to contribute to “End of the siege (for the FAR) of the city of Al Pasher“, Capital of Darfur Norte and the only bastion of the Sudanese Army in the west of the country,”ending the recruitment of Colombian mercenaries”
“I call on the Colombian people and all Spanish -speaking communities to remain firm with us to achieve the end of the siege of the phase, and stop the recruitment and sending of mercenaries to our land“He said.
These messages arrive 10 days after the Sudanese army announced the death of dozens of Colombian mercenaries in the demolition of an Emirati plane in an area controlled by the FAR in western Sudan.

According to official Sudanese television, the plane was shot down when the mercenaries were heading to the Nyala airport, capital of the Sudanese state of Darfur Sur and Under control of the FAR, involved in a devastating war with the regular army since April 2023. Last July, Russia also denounced the high number of Colombian mercenaries in ranks of the Ukraine Armed Forces.
For that reason, the Colombian government settled in August last year a bill to Avoid the recruitment of mercenaries by organizations that lead them to wars that have nothing to do with their country, as with those of Sudan and Ukraine.

The initiative seeks to approve the International Convention on Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries, approved by the United Nations General Assembly on December 4, 1989.
