The president of the Senate, Álvaro Elizalde (PS), referred to the CNTV statement in which he clarified that an electoral slot on television is not contemplated for the election of constituent councilors.
“The constitutional reform that enables the new constituent process, indicates that in the election of the Constitutional Council the norms of law 18,700 are applied, which is precisely the law that regulates the electoral strip, therefore, when expressly indicated in the reform that is apply this regulation, it corresponds to carry out an electoral strip”, indicated Senator Elizalde.

The head of the Upper House stressed that “we believe that a correct interpretation and application of the reform implies that the democratic process of electing constitutional councilors with an electoral band is carried out, in such a way that citizens vote in an informed manner.”
From the National Television Council (CNTV) they had declared that “being an autonomous body of the State that must be governed by the principle of legality, consequently, it cannot be attributed powers that are not given to it by law, such as organizing an electoral strip in this case” .
It is worth mentioning that the deputy Luis Cuello (PC) announced that he would present a reform that will allow the existence of an electoral band for the election of the Constitutional Council, after the warning of the CNTV.
In this regard, Deputy Cuello highlighted: “Based on the warning issued by the National Television Council regarding the impossibility of having a television electoral slot for candidates for the Constitutional Council, we believe it is important to correct this error.”
To this, the communist parliamentarian added: “That is why we will present a reform to make the rules on the electoral strip applicable, in order to guarantee that citizens vote informed in this momentous election. I am sure that we will be able to process and approve it quickly.”
