The president of the Popular Party, Daniel Brea, described as “serious and worrying” the social, economic and political situation that the country is currently experiencing.
In the politician’s opinion, almost every day the country wakes up with a new scandal of embezzlement of public funds and abuse of authority, in which high-ranking government officials and authorities elected by popular vote are allegedly involved, such as: deputies, mayors, representatives districts, among others.
Given this scenario, he stressed, the Government acts complicitly by allowing crime to go unpunished, while the common citizen has to raffle life day by day to survive with what reaches him.
On the other hand, he questioned that at this point in the Government of President Cortizo an extraordinary decision has not been made to save the finances of the Social Security Fund (CSS).
“The financial state of the CSS is a dragging evil that nobody wants to solve,” he assured.
Brea was against the idea that the solution to the serious situation of the CSS would be to increase the retirement age, quite the contrary, he proposed to implement an aggressive plan so that companies, informal workers and anyone who wishes to register to pay their dues do it without being hindered by bureaucratic procedures.
On this point, the political leader stressed that it is the Government’s obligation to maintain an efficient and open policy so that people who receive income enroll in the CSS; In addition, he stressed that an efficient administration is required, committed to the beneficiary and that provides a timely response to their medical care needs.
As a Panamanian, he called on the director of the CSS, Enrique Lao, and the Board of Directors of the entity to present a report to the Nation on the current situation of the CSS and what would be the strategies to counter current and future negative aspects. .
Finally, he pointed out that the workers who contribute and the retirees who gave their share of work to the country have the right to know what is really happening with the CSS, what is needed for it to work and if it is really bankrupt.
