The representative of the township of Calidonia and president of the Municipal Council of the capital, Ramón Ashby, after taking office last Saturday, gave details of the process that he will carry out during his administration.
Ashby stressed that despite the fact that in 6 months, the time that corresponds to him as president, it is very difficult to develop a plan with which projects of benefit to the capital district can be carried out, he will try to attack head-on the problem of the homeless, the bad waste collection and insecurity in the capital district. She assured that they are the only district that has a presidency of 6 months of management, for which she hopes to submit a proposal so that it lasts for one year, as is the case in the rest of the country.
Apart from this, he also made a proposal to provide a solution to the homeless through the Government, the Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry of Social Development and the Capital Municipality itself.
“It is looking for a way to attack this problem in an inter-institutional manner,” he said, adding that he will also see the issue of security in the capital, since daily both in Calidonia and in the other corregimientos it is necessary to exploit the issue of surveillance cameras because His opinion is an issue that has worked for years worldwide and Panama is a little behind in this regard.
He said that it is necessary to exploit the installation of surveillance through video in the 26 districts of the capital district in conjunction with the Ministry of Security and the National Police. He specified that this is a joint effort, since the Municipal Council cannot carry out the work alone, therefore, during its management, they will rely on other entities.
“Yes, we have that interest in seeking that solution and they are one of the points that overwhelm the entire population,” he said.
Regarding the issue of waste collection, he stressed that they have carried out a campaign in which a more appropriate way of using resources is reflected, since currently the money destined for social programs is used by councilors to use that budget to collect garbage by the mismanagement of the Cleaning Authority.
He assured that the correct way to end the garbage problem is, in effect, to transfer the collection to the municipality, making the exception that for this the resources must also be allocated to each communal board that will be in charge of the collection in each township.
“It’s not just transferring the problem to us, but helping us to solve it,” he stressed, adding that each representative wants to have their district clean and, with the equipment and budget, they will be able to do so.
