The magistrate’s words were made during the ceremony for the 142nd Anniversary of the Battle of Miraflores, a confrontation where military compatriots, judges and civilians gave their lives defending our sovereignty against the Chilean occupation.
“May this ceremony, which should not be forgotten, serve us to think about unity and peace among Peruvians, it is a moment of peace, to unite. Our country is going through a crisis, there is disunity, violence; let’s try to overcome it in a peaceful way, in the best way”, expressed Arévalo Vela.

In the event held at Parque Reducto No. 2 as a tribute to the Peruvian martyrs, Arévalo highlighted the participation of judges and judicial workers, especially the president of the Power of attorney and the Supreme Court during the occupation of Lima (1881-1883), Juan Antonio Ribeyro Estada.
“In the peaceful resistance against the Chilean invader after the battle, the peaceful judicial resistance is embodied in Dr. Ribeyro Estada during the occupation of Lima, who offered courageous civil resistance against the invader even at the risk of endangering his physical integrity” , he referred.

It should be remembered that in that fateful stage, the distinguished jurist defended the autonomy of this State Power, opposing the reactivation of the administration of justice in the face of the claims of the Chilean army, which decided to carry out judicial functions without applying Peruvian laws.
“May the tribute serve as an incentive for the union of all Peruvians and the country recover the peace that is so necessary to develop”, remarked Arévalo Vela.
The event was also attended by the Defense Minister, Jorge Chávez Cresta; the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Miraflores, Alexander Von Ehren Campos; titular supreme judges, Miraflores aldermen, among other state authorities.
