With the purpose of strengthening international exchange, as an institutional policy of the Electoral Power, this Tuesday, August 23, the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Pedro Calzadilla, received the ambassador of the Republic of Suriname accredited in Venezuela, Gustaaf Rasiman.
At the meeting, held at the main headquarters of the electoral body, President Calzadilla conveyed a message of friendship, cooperation and joint work between the Venezuelan Electoral Power and the electoral authorities of the Republic of Suriname.
Likewise, the highest electoral authority and Ambassador Rasiman discussed, among other aspects, about the designation of the electoral authorities by the National Assembly (AN), carried out in May of last year, as well as about the Regional and Municipal Elections held on November 21, 2021.
Calzadilla referred to the decolonization processes of the continent, specifically the efforts that the Republic of Suriname carried out in this regard. For his part, the ambassador emphasized that his stay in Venezuela has as its main objective to strengthen relations between the two nations, while expressing that Venezuela was the first country to recognize the independence of Suriname.
Cooperation in electoral matters
The president of CNE He expressed the importance of strengthening electoral systems, reiterating to the Republic of Suriname and its electoral authorities that, given the trajectory of the Venezuelan automated voting system, they made available all the experience in this regard.
The Republic of Suriname, formerly known as Dutch Guiana, is one of the smallest countries in South America, bounded on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the east by French Guiana, on the south by Brazil, and on the west by Guyana.
It is important to note that the Surinamese diplomat arrived in Venezuela on June 29 and was received by the national president on July 11. Rasiman, who is a retired military man, rose to the rank of commander of the Suriname National Army. Among the responsibilities that he has had in his country, he served as head of the Department of Spiritual and Mental Care of the Army of Suriname, in addition to being in charge of the Service to Personnel and Military Civil Relations of the National Army. He was First Class Policy Advisor to the Ministry of the Interior and Acting Deputy Director General for Management of the Surinamese Ministry of the Interior.
