President of the Chamber affirms that the Government, 29 days before the plebiscite, “must be focused on the legislative agenda”

Affirming that La Moneda must be focused on the legislative agenda, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto, addressed the role of the Government, facing the constitutional plebiscite on September 4.

“The Government must be focused on the legislative agenda, on public policies to solve people’s problems. The best campaign the Government can carry out is to govern and do the trick, it is to respond to people’s problems; the other leave it to the parties, hopefully that agreement will come about and tomorrow we in Parliament will be backing it,” said deputy Soto, in conversation with Cooperative Radio.

The PPD parliamentarian considered that “it is not President Boric or Minister Jackson who have to be dedicated to this task today.”

For deputy Soto, the Executive must be focused on the most urgent matters, which, in his opinion, are security and the economy. And he explained: “The public security crisis that we are seeing is the most serious in a long time, we are reaching a limit point in terms of crime, violence; the crisis of terrorism in the South Macrozone (…); the crisis migration in the north, something that must be faced with much greater determination; the issue of drug trafficking and organized crime, we cannot allow this to continue to grow”.

“That should be the priority today, to provide security, to give people peace of mind, to address the problems of the crimes with the greatest connotation that we see every day,” stressed the President of the Chamber.

consulted by the controversial statements issued by ministers of state, Soto pointed out that “the important thing now is that we do not continue to make mistakes.” And he stated that “there have been too many unforced errors in recent times”, since “practically every week we have ministers with controversial phrases or situations who have to come out to apologize publicly, and this is not good for the Government and neither to the electoral process that we are experiencing, especially to the I approve option”.

The legislator finally warned: “You have to be much more careful, you have to be much more prudent; what I would expect is that the Cabinet ministers are the ones who protect the President from the problems, and not the ones who are causing them”, adding that “You have to correct all that, try to put the house in order and turn the page, move forward.”
